(no)signal is a sound + media
art collective operating out of Melbourne, Australia.
(no)signal have been working on the listening, writing, making,
hosting, typing, designing and producing of our very first zine,
Through 2016 we've changed a lot, moving from a boyz noize outfit into something more discursive and inclusive. We've been focussing on difference, trying to challenge the conservatism inherent to local experimental sound practices that privilege the same male bodies over and over again. We're also trying to figure out how to make what we do more accessible and more equitable; emerging artists are poor - our events should be free or by-donation and artists should be paid where possible.
To do this we've been approaching our work in new ways: hosting discussions, working in alternative spaces, publishing experimental documents.
This zine is a document of that journey, a reflection of our collective voice as (no)signal. Hopefully this voice resonates with you: if so we hope you'll be keen to work with us in 2017.
A lot of time and effort from so many people has gone into the making of this, and we invite you to come and celebrate with us; celebrate what has been over the past year, and what will come as time moves forward!
This event is BYO, snacks will be provided and we would love a donation towards your copy of the zine, so bring some coins!
Compilations will be available for free at all our upcoming events.
Thanks to all the contributing artists and thanks to RMIT Link Arts and culture for their support.
